Yokohama Rubber to produce tires

Monday, July 28, 2008

Yokohama Rubber Co, Japan's third-biggest tire maker, said it plans to produce tires for passenger cars in Russia and Brazil from 2010 to meet rising demand in these fast-growing economies.

It will be the first Japanese tire maker to start local production in Russia. Bigger rival Bridgestone Corp already has tire factories in Brazil.

Yokohama Rubber currently ships tires to these countries from factories in Japan and the Philippines. But it wants to build local plants due to the strong business prospects in Russia and South America and also to avoid high tariffs on imported tires, a company spokesman said.

"It makes more sense to produce tires there and sell them directly in the region," the spokesman said.

"We'll keep shipping value-added products from Japan... (The plants) will start small and expand if and when sales increase," the spokesman added.

Making ID

Monday, July 21, 2008 · Posted in

Making ID for a whole day is not really fun. You know what? Every time that I am going to look at the list of the student that doesn’t have an ID, I really want to say I hope that I am not a working student but a regular student. Because every day that I am facing with the computer and doing those ID I think my eyes will blow into pieces and I think my head going also to break into pieces. But still I can’t make anything about this because I rather choose to become a working student than to be a regular student. So still I have to fight against. All the temptation that whispering me every day and night to stop in my work but I can’t so therefore I have to fight for it.

Well I am so happy it is because the said earthquake that will happen yesterday is not true and instead it is only a predict. But some of the volcanologist nothing in this world cannot predict if there would be an earthquake or not. But it really teach me a very important lesson that everyone should know and it is on how to be faithful to God and to trust God. And also on how to pray to God. So because the end of the world is near, I really read this one in some of the article in the news and even my Gradnmother knows about this kind of terrible news. We should have to be faihtful to God and be sincere in doing all his commandments.

Saturday, July 12, 2008 · Posted in

Apple's new iPhone made a glitzy debut on Friday as frenetic buyers in New Zealand and Japan, some of whom had camped in line for days, stormed outlets to get their hands on the gadget.

The new iPhone -- a music and video player, cell phone and Web terminal in one -- is an updated version of the original that sold to 270,000 people within days of its June 2007 launch.

After New Zealand and Japan, the sales of the 3G iPhone will roll out to more than 20 countries across the globe.

Several hundred people waited outside Vodafone shops in New Zealand's three main cities, supplied with music, food and entertainment, before a spirited countdown saw the first person in the world politely ushered through the door to the counter.

"I'm going to put this on charge, have a play around with it and have a nice long sleep," said 22-year-old Auckland student Jonny Gladwell, who queued in freezing temperatures for around 60 hours to be the first to buy it, at a minute past midnight.

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao returned to the Philippines at dawn Friday following his ninth round knockout of World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday.

In a press conference at the Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pacquiao promised to donate P3 million in the ongoing relief work for the victims of typhoon Frank late last month in Luzon and the Visayas.

"I for one, after discussing it with my wife, will give P3 million to the victims of the typhoon," Pacquiao told reporters.

Together with his personal donation, Pacquiao said he and some friends will put up a fundraising campaign by way of a concert and telethon to gather support for the victims of the typhoon.

"We're just finalizing the schedule, then we'll go visit them," the champion said.

Pacquiao, together with his wife, Jinkee, trainers and business managers, arrived on board a Philippine Airlines flight from Los Angeles, California, shortly after 5 a.m.

Oil hits $145

Thursday, July 03, 2008 · Posted in

Oil continued its record-breaking run on Thursday, hitting 145 dollars a barrel for the first time after a US report added to supply worries and the US dollar weakened, analysts said.

Brent North Sea crude for August delivery traded at 145.00 in early Asian trade, 74 cents higher than its record close of 144.26 in London the previous day, when the contract topped 144 dollars for the first time.

New York's benchmark futures contract, light sweet crude for August delivery, was 81 cents higher at 144.38 from its record close of 143.57 on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Wednesday.

The latest surge followed a warning from Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari that his country would react fiercely to any attack against it.

"Iran, if there were any kind of activity of any sort, is not going to be quiet and would react fiercely," he told reporters on the sidelines of the World Petroleum Congress in Madrid.

Princess of the Stars

A Philippine ferry that sank in a typhoon will be refloated, officials said Wednesday, ditching a bid to use divers to retrieve hundreds of bodies and toxic pesticides some 11 days after the disaster.

Amid anger at the slow-moving recovery operation, the government and ferry owners abandoned plans to bore a hole in the 24,000-tonne vessel to pull out the bodies and agricultural chemicals that threaten the marine environment.

A salvage outfit hired to execute the plan, as well as Filipino and US military divers, have left the site off the central island of Sibuyan, Transportation and Communication Undersecretary Elena Bautista said.

"Subsea (the salvage firm) is pulling out because we will refloat the vessel," Bautista told AFP here.

While tests showed waters have not been contaminated with the endosulfan cargo, there was concern containers could corrode allowing the chemical to leach and contaminate the area.
