Pacquiao vows at least P3-M aid for typhoon victims

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao returned to the Philippines at dawn Friday following his ninth round knockout of World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday.

In a press conference at the Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pacquiao promised to donate P3 million in the ongoing relief work for the victims of typhoon Frank late last month in Luzon and the Visayas.

"I for one, after discussing it with my wife, will give P3 million to the victims of the typhoon," Pacquiao told reporters.

Together with his personal donation, Pacquiao said he and some friends will put up a fundraising campaign by way of a concert and telethon to gather support for the victims of the typhoon.

"We're just finalizing the schedule, then we'll go visit them," the champion said.

Pacquiao, together with his wife, Jinkee, trainers and business managers, arrived on board a Philippine Airlines flight from Los Angeles, California, shortly after 5 a.m.
